In the fall of 2001, I began a project in which I painted 100 views of beautiful Teton Valley. In the spring of 2002, the "Teton 100" show opened with a big party. The spring issue of the magazine "Teton Home" featured an article about the project. Overall, it was an exciting time for Ken Morrison's Blue Fly Gallery in Tetonia, Idaho.
Some of the "Teton 100" paintings are featured on this page. Many of the "100" have been sold, and all that remain are for sale.
This was an interesting project for me. In the fall, my pallet changed to include the Valley's vibrant red dogwood against the cornflower blue skies. My wife Maureen said that seeing the autumnal colors gradually emerge in each new painting was like watching a slow-motion movie.
During the winter, I worked with the surprisingly variety of colors I found in the open blue streams and the bare trees, which retain warm red and orange hues. The snow, which tends to stay very clean-looking because of the frequent dustings of fresh snow, reflected interesting pastels from the sky and water.
In spring, the Valley's trees glittered brilliant green in our mercifully frequent sunshine.
The Teton Valley is a beautiful place to live, and even more beautiful to paint.
